Bee Safety for Seniors

The flowers are blooming here in the Lehigh Valley! But, ensuring bee safety for our seniors should involve a few practical steps to minimize the risk of bee stings and manage any incidents effectively. Here are some tips:

Stay away from areas with a lot of flowers, as they attract bees. Be cautious around gardens, parks, and fields.

Avoid Scented Products as bees are attracted to them. Strong perfumes, lotions, or hair sprays should be avoided when spending time outdoors.

Wear Appropriate Clothing: Light-colored, long-sleeved shirts and pants can help prevent bee stings. Bees are attracted to dark colors and floral patterns.

Stay Calm and Move Slowly: If a bee approaches, it’s important to stay calm and move away slowly. Swatting at bees can provoke them.

For those know to have allergic reactions, extra caution is advised. Seek the advice of a healthcare professional before you have an incident.

By following these guidelines, seniors can enjoy outdoor activities during the summer while minimizing the risk of bee stings.
